Create Direct Download Links for Files on Google Drive

Creating a direct download URL allows you to send a link that prompts the recipient to download the file instead of displaying it in a web viewer.

1. Go to https://drive.google.com in a web browser. If you’re not already signed into your Google account, click Go to Google Drive to sign in now.

2. Right-click the file for which you want to create a download link. A context menu will appear.

3. Click Share. A pop-up window will appear.

4. Click Get Sharable Link. It’s at the top-right corner of the pop-up window.

5. Click Advanced. It’s at the bottom of the pop-up.

6. Select an option from the drop-down menu. The default is Anyone with Link Can View, but you can change this to Can Edit or Can Comment.

To restrict usage to one user, select OFF, then add the people you want to access the file to the ″People″ field.
